Lindsey left her home at about 10:30 am and walked east on Royston Road (south of Courtenay on Vancouver Island) to visit friends.
Although she had run away before, her foster mother told police she didn't think Lindsey had any plans to that day because she left all her belongings and treasures in her bedroom. However, the teen had run away earlier that year and was found at a friend's house in Delta where she used to live.
Lindsey's DNA was the first missing person's to be included in Canada's national DNA databank. Lindsey's mother campaigned for 18 years to have the databank expanded to include missing persons. Lindsey's Law in Canada came into effect in 2018 nearly 25 years after Lindsey's disappearance.
