Classification: Endangered Missing

Vital Statistics

Circumstances of Disappearance
Dowagiac schoolteacher Joyce Fisher was last seen April 15, 1978, when she left her parents' summer cottage at Indian Lake. She left her year-old daughter with her parents and planned to return from Bell's Corner later that afternoon.
She had gone to meet her estranged husband, Jerry. Fisher told police he met with his wife and they drove around in his car for a while, before he dropped her off back at her car which was parked at Bell's Corner store. The 1969 Buick she was driving was found about two hours later at Bell's Corner, a small community about five miles from the lake. There was no sign of a struggle.

Jerry Fisher was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter even though the body was never found.
He had served four years of a 7 1/2- to 15-year prison term when the conviction was overturned by the Court of Appeals and he was freed.
