Phillip went ocean fishing in 16' outboard boat and never returned. His wife contacted the USCG at 07:30 a.m. on 8-18-1973. The USCG later found the boat floating 1.5 miles off Bethany Beach, Delaware. The engine cover was found to be removed from the engine, suggesting mechanical failure. Sheridan's wallet and glasses were on board the boat.
The incident was reported to Delaware State Police on October 1, 1973.
