On February 26, 2001 at 10:10 am, Decedent Affairs, VAMC, reported the death of Richard Miller, a Black male with the date of birth of September 14, 1939 with no address. Miller was admitted to the hospital via the emergency room, with severe abdominal pain, on January 15, 2001. He underwent surgery for a suspected bowel obstruction February 26, and was subsequently pronounced dead on February 26, 2001 at 01:32 hours.
Information Miller had supplied at the time he was admitted: Former address of 3918 Tennessee in Cincinnati, and cousins, both named James White, one at 4318 Foster St., Chicago, the other 4918 Englewood St., Detroit. The addresses were checked and found to be fictitious, and Miller's social security number did not match his name.
From fingerprints, he was identified as Richard Stewart, date of birth April 14, 1936, who was arrested by the Miami Township Police in 1993. At the time Stewart gave his address as "at large", he listed no next-of-kin. Subsequently, it was found the SSN used by Stewart was also false. Further fingerprint checks indicated he may be a James Robinson, date of birth March 8, 1932.
After checking the his fingerprints through NCIC and finding he was arrested throughout the country using various names, dates of birth, social security numbers and addresses, it was decided to consider him a John Doe.
