Vital Statistics

  • Estimated age: 14-17 years old
  • Approximate Height and Weight: 5'1" (155 cm); 110 lbs (50 kg)
  • Distinguishing Characteristics: Dark auburn hair, wavy shoulder length; deep blue eyes.Three brown flat birthmarks on upper/lower back. Number of freckles on backs of shoulders. Pierced left earlobe. Right earlobe piercing had healed over.
  • Dentals: Available. Her front tooth was chipped, but it is not clear whether the chip was present prior to her death. Teeth 1, 16, 17, and 32 were absent. Unknown if due to extraction or they had not appeared yet.
  • Clothing/Jewelry: Multicolored upper bodice long gown. Bust frindge was flowered pattern and red. Slit in front. Violet underwear and tights. Pair of earrings, which she wore in her left earlobe. A white metal ring on left ring finger missing the stone/setting.
  • Other: She has used the name Janice Marie Brock, Janice Marie Bromke and friends knew her as "Cindy", "Maria" or "Marie".

Case History
On June 9, 1973, this unidentified child was pushed in front of a moving vehicle in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida, and died at the scene, at 11 Avenue & 8 Street S. in St. Petersburg. According to witnesses, she was involved in an altercation with a black male prior to being pushed into the path of the vehicle.
She was new to the area, and was believed to have been a runaway from an unknown location. She had been living in the area for a few weeks prior to death and was believed to be a runaway associated with drug related activity.
The girl told a different story to everyone, making it diffiscult to determine her history. She may have come to Florida from North Carolina with a man named Bill. A letter found among her belongings mentions friends in North Carolina and Virginia.
Lawrence E. Dorn was charged with first degree murder in the death of the girl.
