Circumstances of Discovery

The decedent had been using the name "Bill Lee Hull". Previously he had lived in Tucson, Arizona with Bessie Fields for 20 years before moving to Salem in 2008. After Bessie died in 2009, "Bill" began living with Bessie's grandson and his wife.

When "Bill" applied for Social Security benefits it was learned he was using someone else's number. Administration told him to apply for a new number but "Bill" couldn't provide a birth certificate or his mother's maiden name. Furthermore, demographic information provided by Bessie's family can't be verified.

Authorities have checked the vital records offices in places where he previously lived and in Arkansas where he was supposedly born. There are no records for him or other possible family members. He is listed as a John Doe.
