Circumstances of Disappearance
The car Mr. Shaw was driving was found abandoned in an alley off of and west of Maryland Parkway, between Desert Inn road and Sahara Boulevard, behind (west of) Wonder World, near Karen Avenue. West of the alleyway was desert in 1971.
This car he was driving was a Whittlesea rental, ‘69-’71 Ford Galaxy, light yellow/beige. The car was found by a Las Vegas patrol officer, between midnight and 1:30am.
Police called the Whittlesea rentals to verify ownership.
Mr. Shaw's son answered the call and verified the car’s I.d. and added that he had gone on duty at 11:00 pm to relieve his dad off the swing shift. Mr Shaw had told his son to “be careful” on account that he had seen “prowlers” earlier and added that he was going straight home from work.
Jim left at approximately 11:30pm, May 4, 1971 from Whittlesea car rentals, located at the south west corner of Tropicana Boulevard and Paradise Road. Blood on the driver’s side was reported by the police.
Mr. Shaw's last known address was on Franklin Avenue, between Maryland Parkway & South 6th street, directly north of Whittlesea rentals.
He shared a large house with two of his sons, a couple of friends; and his girlfriend.
Mr. Shaw never made it home, even though it was a short distance from the business.
Foul play is suspected.
