Circumstances of Disappearance

Marilyn Brinson's husband claimed he last saw her on July 15, 2002, when she went to bed. The next morning, she was gone, and he assumed she had gone to work. He reported her missing after her co-workers called and said she had failed to arrive for her shift at Texico Star Mart at U.S. 169 and NE 68th Street.

Later that evening, police found Marilyn's 1995 Ford Taurus in the middle of 24th Street and Topping Avenue with blood inside. An incomplete bloody handprint was found on the outside of the trunk. The handprint was later proven to have been made by Marilyn's husband. Police found blood splattered inside the car and pools of blood on the dashboard, the passenger seat, and the passenger floorboard. A partly burned paper towel was stuffed in the gas tank intake pipe. Freshwater organisms, which are typically found in river water, were also found in samples of mud on the trunk and from underneath the husband's fingernails.

When police searched Marilyn's home, a large amount of blood was found in the parking lot. The blood found in the car and parking lot were later proven to have been from Marilyn. The medical examiner later testified that a person could not have survived without medical attention based on the amount of blood found at the scenes. Area hospitals had no records of having treated her recently.

It's believed Marilyn was killed (possibly shot) and her body thrown into the Blue River.

In 2005, Marilyn's husband was convicted of first-degree murder. Marilyn's body has yet to be found.
