The last time Chan ran away from home was in late September. Chan eventually returned on her own. She told police that she had been depressed and needed some time alone to think. She said she had spent her nights sleeping under a tree in a forested area near Mission Boulevard and Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont. She had run away twice before in that same month. Her medical insurance and credit cards have been flagged.
Local police told the Immigration and Naturalization Service to be on the lookout for Chan in case she decided to return to China.
