Circumstances of Disappearance
Nam Kwon Kang came from Korea to Canada in 1995. On November 1, 1996 he vanished while visiting a friend in St.John's.
He was an experienced rock climber, paratrooper and martial arts expert. He had been in St. John's about a week when he went missing. During that week Kang had been rock-climbing and sightseeing in the Signal Hill and Kelly's Island areas. A five-day search of the area turned up nothing.
All his personal belongings were left at the apartment where he was staying. A former member of the forces in his home country, Kang was studying at Toronto's Hansaw Language school.
