Circumstances of Disappearance
Dawn Elaine Sanchez disappeared from the Four Seasons Motor Inn in Los Altos, where she lived. She has never been seen again. Sanchez, formerly a prostitute at the Mustang Ranch in Nevada, reportedly left the Four Seasons Motor Inn on El Camino Real in Los Altos with two male friends, to buy drugs.

Suspicion turned to her boyfriend, a Santa Clara man who was charged with her murder. Her body was never found. Charges against the boyfriend were dropped.
Before Sanchez's disappearance, she had told another man who also lived at the motel that the boyfriend had assaulted her in the past and that she was afraid of the boyfriend, who she claimed carried a handgun and had killed a man who once propositioned her.

According to that man, the three of them drove to a vacant field near the Twin Creeks Softball Park in Sunnyvale, near Lawrence Expressway and Highway 237. The three spent some time in the lot before the boyfriend suddenly jumped back into the car, drove about 100 yards with Sanchez and then stopped, according to the witness's statements. He claimed to have seen the couple fighting and then heard what sounded like a gunshot before the vehicle sped away.
