Circumstances of Disappearance
On April 25, 1996, Dawson's roommate had stayed up talking with Dawson until 11:30 p.m. on the 25th. When the friend got up the next morning at about 7:30 AM, Dawson was gone from his home on Route 38 in Sterling. Dawson's bed did appear to have been slept in. All of Dawson's belongings were left behind.
Dawson was first reported missing to the sheriff's office. Dawson is believed to be dead because there have been no confirmed sightings or contact with him since the missing person's report was filed.
Detectives on the case said Dawson had been diligent about staying in contact with his family prior to the disappearance.
An unconfirmed sighting placed Dawson on the Nichols Road Bridge near Martville at 7:30 a.m. April 26, 1996. He was also reportedly seen on a bridge in Oswego. Oswego, New York. is about 20 miles from where Dawson was last seen.
Dawson's living family members include his mother, two children and an ex-wife. The rumors floating around the northern part of Cayuga County have long been that foul play was involved with Dawson's disappearance, but that has never been confirmed by detectives.
