Case History Hikers discovered the skeleton remains of a man about four miles east of Multnomah Falls Lodge on September 9, 1979. Some sources list the date of discovery as September 14, 1979. The state medical examiner could not determine the cause of death. In 2008, the Smithsonian Institution completed an examination of the skeleton but were not able to rule out homicide.
