Unidentified Black Male
Vital Statistics
Case History
The victim was found floating near the surface of a canal near a boat dock, west of U.S. Highway 27, just north of the Dade County line. An employee of Mack's Fish Camp was on the dock moving a boat about 9 a.m. and discovered the body.
Workers at the fish camp told detectives they had talked to the man earlier and believed he was Haitian. He had no identification on him.
A few days before his body was discovered, witnesses told investigators that the victim had mentioned to people at Mac's Fish Camp that he knew someone who lived just off the campgrounds. Though he carried no identification, the man had a piece of paper with the name "Jean Ronald Destin" and a Miami phone number. The man who answered the phone at that number repeatedly said he did not know the dead man.
He might have been homeless.
