Circumstances of Discovery

A 10-year-old girl discovered a partial human skull in a wooded area off of U.S. Hwy. 19 near Palmdale Road in Brooksville in northern Hernando County, near the Hernando-Citrus county line.

The girl had asked her parents to pull over off of the highway so she could relieve herself. When the girl went into the woods and saw the skull, she called out for her mother. Unsure if the skull was human, they took it home and called the authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies responded and the woman showed them the area in which her daughter found the skull.

Since no other bones were found in the area, officials suspect the skull may have been dragged from the rest of the body.

The skull was forensically examined and is believed to be that of an adult black male.

The area where the skull was found is near where serial killer Robert Dale Henderson dumped the bodies of three hitchhikers he picked up near Panama City in 1982. All of those bodies were recovered.
