The victim's fully skeletonized remains were discovered on a steep embankment overlooking a water filled strip mine. This area of Sugarloaf Township is wooded and located approximately two miles from the West Hazleton exit, which is exit ¦14, of Interstate 81.

The woman's bones were found in December 1994 during a mine reclamation project when a surveyor noticed a pelvic bone. Investigators said the remains were not buried and appeared as if they had been lying on a dirt road near an abandoned mine for a few months, possibly years.

Istotope analysis indicated that the woman was not native to the area where she was found. She may have lived in or spent time in Texas, Florida or other states in the Southeastern part of the United States.
