Circumstances of Disappearance

Madeleine was last seen on the evening of May 3, 2007, in her bed. Her family, from Leicester, England, were on holiday with friends in a resort in Praia da Luz. Madeleine and her younger twin siblings were put to bed in the ground-floor apartment her family was renting. The adults in the group left the children sleeping around 8:30 p.m. and went to dinner at a restaurant 55 metres away and within sight of the apartment. The adults took turns checking on the children every 30 minutes throughout the evening, until Madeleine was discovered missing around 10 p.m. Police were called at 10:10 p.m.

Madeleine's disappearance has drawn global media attention. Despite massive worldwide searches and numerous unreliable sightings, Madeleine has not been found.
