Circumstances of Disappearance

Claudia was last seen on March 18, 2009, at around 3:05 p.m. walking to her house. At 8:10 p.m. Claudia has a telephone conversation with her parents. At 8:23 p.m. she sends a text message to a friend. Claudia receives a text message at 9:12 p.m. but it's unknown if she read the message. The next day, Claudia fails to show up for work and later that evening, fails to meet a friend at a nearby pub. The friend calls Claudia's father who contacts police.

Investigators believe Claudia left for work on March 19, 2009, based on the fact her bed was made and it appeared she had eaten breakfast and brushed her teeth. However, her hair straightener, a GHD model 14.4.1B, was missing from her home (see photo). Based on inquiries, it is doubtful she would have taken it to work with her that day. A witness saw a couple arguing on Melrosegate Bridge at 5:35 a.m. on March 19, when Claudia would have been walking to work. The man was smoking. A cigarette butt found in Claudia's car had male DNA on it and doesn't match the DNA from any known associates of Claudia's. There are also fingerprints throughout Claudia's house that can't be eliminated. Evidence taken from calls made from Claudia's missing cell phone suggest she had been spending time in the Acomb area of York leading up to her disappearance. Her cell phone was turned off at around 12:10 p.m. on March 19 and it, along with her rucksack, have never been found (see photo).

Police suspect foul play in Claudia's disappearance.
