Their African father Yaha Kolawole Sanusi took the three kids in September 1998 via Turkey to Mekka in Saudi-Arabia, to have them baptized according to his Islamic belief.
Mr Sanusi has stated that the kids are in the hands of an Islamic brotherhood in Nigeria. Authorities believed him but all attempts to find the children were futile.
When in 1998 Mr Sanusi returned from Nigeria to Germany, he was arrested and sentenced for the kidnapping of his children. He never disclosed their whereabouts and they were never found.
