Tulay Goren left home address and failed to return. The last time anyone saw or spoke to her was 7 January 1999 in the Woodford Green area. She was reported missing by friends and family on 22 January 1999. Her body has never been found.
Between January and September 1999, three men and one woman were arrested in connection with the investigation and one man was interviewed under caution. All arrested were bailed and subsequently released from bail. It is thought she was murdered in a so-called 'Honor killing' by her father, Mehmet Goren.
The night before her murder Tulay was caught trying to escape from the house and was drugged with sleeping pills to make sure she did not leave. Mehmet Goren faces a life sentence after he was convicted of murdering his 15-year-old daughter. The schoolgirl was killed because she fell in love with the wrong man. It is suspected that Tulay's body was buried in the back garden of her home in Woodford Green, north London, and was later moved.
