Cross's friends last saw him in the early hours of November 15 1996, making his way back to his hotel in Benidorm, Spain. He did not return as expected and his family have not heard from him since. Mr Cross's son was just three when his father went missing. A death certificate was issued in 2004. There was a possible sighting of Derek, who is originally from Leicester, in Ibiza but his whereabouts remain currently unknown. Police have kept the case open because of the possibility that Mr Cross is still alive.
