Circumstances of Disappearance

Hollis was last seen on 16 May, 1986, in Minto in Sydney's southwestern suburbs. He never spoke to anyone about possible travel or relocation plans.

Hollis was bashed and robbed by two men near a toilet block about two weeks before he went missing. Afterwards, Hollis became paranoid about his safety and stayed with his aunt and then his sister before returning home.

Police have information Ian might have lived around the Northern Rivers area in Lismore, Tyalgum, Kyogle and Tenterfield. It’s possible he might have also spent some time at a youth hostel known as ‘Tooloom’ in the Tenterfield area.

Police have also been informed that just prior to him being reported missing Ian Hollis may have been living with a man aged in his 30s or 40s who owned a light plane. They may have traveled to Melbourne about this time.

Hollis was close to his mother and sister and it was highly unlikely, in the event that he ran away from home, he would not get in touch for so many years.
