Circumstances of Disappearance

When Malcolm Berry closed his hairdressing shop in Keighley on 10 August 1991 he left a sign in the window. It said he would be back from his Spanish holiday in just over two weeks. But Mr Berry was never seen by anyone again. The bachelor, who lived alone above his shop, was a bullfighting fanatic but it is not known whether he ever reached his intended destination, the Costa del Sol, or even boarded a plane. He has not been seen or heard of since, despite extensive inquiries in UK and in Spain, including a search by an English-language newspaper in Malaga. The ukulele-playing barber, described as eccentric, left behind a string of town centre properties and more than 0,000 in his bank account, which stayed untouched. His shop remained unused and boarded-up for years before being converted into a residential property.

He was certified dead in 2002.

The hairdresser had left his 0,000 legacy to the Beamish Museum in County Durham. The museum had no record of any previous donations or correspondence. The only clue to a link was a poster of Beamish which used to hang in Mr Berry's salon.
