Farrell was working on board the Isle of Inismor as a Cinema Manager at the time. He went missing while on route from Rosslare to Pembroke at roughly 22.30 on September 19, 1994. He is married with 3 children and is very much missed by all of his family.
In the days that followed, the Welsh Police, the Gardai and the Welsh Coast Guard were involved in the search for Farrell, but it is to this day a total mystery as to what happened to him. He was not depressed, in bad form or worried about anything at the time of his disappearance. He had also worked for nine years with Irish Ferries and had traveled this route many times.
