Circumstances of Disappearance
Nolfo left his home in Palagonia on August 13, 1970.
A missing persons report was made many years later. In the meantime, the young man's relatives tried to search for him in a number of different ways. In 1993, the Nolfo family enlisted the help of two private investigators who managed to come up with a trace: Ignazio frequently went to an institute run by nuns in Catania for the poor. Upon hearing this, his mother and niece immediately went to the institute and found a nun who, according to the investigators, had talked to the young man. The nun said that he referred to himself as "Ignazio of Palagonia". Every once and a while he would come to the institute to have a shower and eat lunch. His mother returned to Catania a number of times and even left a letter in case he should show up again, but there was no sign of him. The person sighted at the institute might not have been Ignazio.
