Circumstances of Disappearance
Fiona Pender from Tullamore has been missing since 1996. She was last seen at her flat at Church Street, Tullamore at 6am on Friday 23rd August 1996.
At that time she was 7 months pregnant and had spent the previous day shopping for baby clothes with her mother in Tullamore. She was in good form and was looking forward to the birth of her baby.
The last person known to have seen her alive was her boyfriend, John Thompson who was the father of her unborn child. At the time, she was suffering from a bout of heartburn and was still in bed when he left her in the ground-floor flat on Church Street in Tullamore to go to work at his family's farm eight
miles away in Grange, County Laois.
Fiona gave no indication she was planning to leave and did not taker her passport, her credit cards or even a change of clothes with her.
There was no evidence of any type of disturbance at the flat and it is believed that she left willingly and probably got into a vehicle with someone she knew.
She was due to give birth to her child on October 22,
1996.
She had been living in Croydon in London before returning home to
Ireland in February 1996.
