Rinke disappeared while on holiday in Turkey. He spent time in Kony, Malataya and Görem. Around 11 a.m. on 1 September 1995 he left his Turkish hosts to take a walk through Seydisehir. He left all personal items behind. That was the last time he was seen. His last known residence is Bremerhaven, Germany.
