Circumstances of Disappearance
On May 4, 1987 the soldiers of the 4th Regiment de Dragons of Mourmelon Le Grand noticed the absence of Patrick Gache during the fall in.
He had left this unit on the afternoon of April 30, 1987 as he was on leave
from May 1 to May 3, to go to his family house in Annonay.
He was last seen leaving his regiment on foot to go to the station of Mourmelon Le Petit.
He is a presumed victim of chief adjudant Pierre Chanal, suspect in the
disappearances and murders of up to eight young men. All young men
disappeared while hitchhiking around Mourmelon.
Chanal committed suicide in October 2003 in hospital after his trial for the murders of Patrick Gache, Patrice Denis and Trevor O'Keefe, found murdered by strangulation on August 8, 1987, had started. Traces of their DNA were found in his vehicle.
