Dubois, circa
Patrick Dubois
Missing since January 4, 1980 from Mourmelon Le Grand, Marne, France
Classification: Endangered Missing
Vital Statistics
Circumstances of Disappearance
On January 5, 1980, soldiers of the 4th Regiment de Dragons of Mourmelon Le Grand noticed the absence of Patrick
Dubois, young conscript of this unit, who had had a permission to leave for
the previous evening.
He was declared deserter but after other suspicious
disappearances an investigation was opened, approximately four years after.
The only clue to his disappearance is a letter he sent his parents on the
day he disappeared in which he indicated he had accepted to accompany
another conscript to the movie theater.
He is a presumed victim of chief
adjudant Pierre Chanal, suspect in the disappearances and murders of up to
eight young men. All young men disappeared while hitchhiking around
Mourmelon. Chanal committed suicide in October 2003 in hospital after his
trial for the murders of Patrice Denis, Patrick Gache and Trevor O'Keefe,
found murdered by strangulation on August 8, 1987, had started. Traces of
their DNA were found in his vehicle.
