Prince George's County police are seeking the public's help in identifying a woman whose body was found about three months ago.

Members of the Maryland Department of Corrections discovered the body while cleaning roadside trash in the area of outhbound Interstate 495, just prior to Exit 24 for the Greenbelt Metro Station.

Upon examining the body, a forensic pathologist determined she was a black woman, about 35 to 50 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 140 to 150 pounds. The tip of her right index finger was slightly cut off.

A sketch artist from the Doe Network provided a facial reconstruction from the woman's skull.

"[Police are] not suspecting homicide, it's a death investigation," said police spokeswoman Cpl. Debbie Carlson. "They certainly want to find out who she is" and let her family know.

No other information about the woman or how she was found has been released yet, Carlson added, because the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the possible identity of this "Jane Doe" is asked to call the Prince George's County Homicide Unit at 301-772-4925.
