Doe Network Press Release: Identification made in 1996 unidentified person homicide

April 8, 2004

The Doenetwork is pleased to inform the media that it has helped solve a 1996 Jane Doe mystery in Maryland.

Kylen Johnson, Maryland Area Director for the Doenetwork, and Administrator of Maryland Missing Person's Network, came across a profile of a missing person named Tonya Gardner on The Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers web site, which resembled a Jane Doe case profile on the Doenetwork, Case File 260UFMD.

Kylen Johnson submitted the potential match between the unidentified person and the missing person to the Doe Network volunteer group, as well as the Maryland State Police. Corporal Linda Lozier of the Maryland State police contacted Pennsylvania state police and a dental match ensued. A dental comparison concluded recently this was a match.

The Doe Network is a volunteer, non-profit organization that assists Law Enforcement in locating missing persons and identifying unidentified human remains. The Doenetwork has been successful in solving or assisted in solving 20 cases so far since the group of volunteers was formed in 2001, including another one last year in Maryland.
