(SELLERSBURG, Ind.) -- It was Christmas 1977 when two trappers came across the body of an unknown black male who was lying dead in a drain culvert at the intersection of State Road 335 and U.S. Highway 150 in Floyd County. Since that time, investigators have continually tried to identify the victim, but no one has ever come forward to claim the body. Now police hope a website can help.

An autopsy was performed, revealing the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the head.

The victim is described as a black male between 18 and 25 years old, about six feet tall and weighing approximately 165-175 pounds. He was wearing a blue wool knit stocking cap, blue windbreaker jacket with the name "ED" embroidered in red on the right front pocket, a black nylon blue sweatshirt, and blue-gray flannel pants.

Indiana State Police Investigators at the Sellersburg post have listed the unknown black male on a website called The Doe Network. The site shows actual photos of the victim.

It was created in 1999 by a group of volunteers. Police say they have received some information that the victim could be from the Louisville area.

Investigators stress that there are no financial liabilities involved with identifying the victim.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call First Sergeant Sammy Sarkiasian at the Indiana State Police Post at 812-246-2509. Kentuckiana Crime Stoppers is also offering $1,000 reward in this case. They can be reached at 502-582-CLUE.
