Case History
The victim was located at the Gulf Shores Public Beach on September 24, 2005, near the West Second Street beach access.
Police believe that the drowned man and three men who were with him were in the United States without permission, and that the others did not contact authorities out of fear of being deported. After the man was swept underwater in heavy surf, at least one of the other three tried to save him, according to witnesses. All three men, however, left when police and paramedics arrived. Police believe that the four might have been visiting the beach from outside the Gulf Shores area. The victim's fingerprints matched none on file with the U.S. Department of Immigration and Naturalization. The victim's fingerprints were also sent to the FBI, but no matches were found in those files, either.
The man was buried at county expense in the Baldwin cemetery in Foley.
