Seeks Assistance In The Identification of a suspect,
wanted for questioning regarding the murder of Jeannette Atwater.
Case History
On January 16, 2000 at approximately 3:30, the Billings Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire. They had difficulty extinguishing the fire. It is believed gasoline was used to start the fire.
The BFD opened the trunk in an attempt to extinguish the fire and discovered a body in the trunk. The body was identified as Jeannette "Charlie" Atwater.
The investigation into the crime revealed the man in the photograph purchasing a small amount of gasoline just prior to the report of the fire and other evidence found at the scene indicates this man may have some knowledge of the crime.
On January 15, 2000 there was a semi-professional basketball game and a Monster Truck show held in Billings. Police believe it is possible he was passing through Billings or attending one of these events.
