Circumstances of Disappearance
Önen disappeared from Kerpen-Buir in Germany on May 16, 1993. He had left his home to visit a friend who was living in the parsonage of the local protestant church. His friend however wasn´t there. Around 3 p.m. he spoke to a boy he met in front of the parsonage. This was the last person who spoke with Önen.
Later two female witnesses reported (independantly from each other) having seen Önen in the evening hours of May 16. He was seen on a local road between Kerpen-Buir and Kerpen-Manheim standing near a birch grove.
