Circumstances of Disappearance
Steel was last seen at the Royal Standard Pub in Ely. On a December evening in 1997 landlady Debbie Steel walked out of her pub. She has not been seen since.
Police launched a massive investigation following Debbie's disappearance on Sunday, December 28, 1997. Forensic teams were sent to the pub, a police helicopter was drafted into scour the local area and eventually the search was widened to London, where Debbie's family lived. Investigators trawled CCTV footage in Ely and on the London Underground, and appeals were launched through posters and in the press.
But except for one person coming forward to say he believed he had seen her at Ely railway station in the early hours of the following Monday, the police failed to find out what had happened to Debbie.
