Jacobson was last seen leaving a relative's home with his mother, Sandra in Sandra's car in Bismarck, North Dakota on November 16, 1996.
Jacobson was supposed to get some gas, which she did. Bismarck Police have the gas receipt from a local convenience store. Then, Jacobson and her son was supposed to be return to her relatives home. They never returned. His mother, Sandy, had been displaying signs of mental illness recently and had agreed to seek help when they returned.
The following day, her gray 1990 Honda Civic was located abandoned at the Centennial Beach parking lot which is adjacent to the Missouri River in Bismarck, North Dakota. The driver's door was open, the keys were still in the ignition, and her purse was on the seat with all its contents intact.
