Circumstances of Disappearance
Hills was last seen in Adelaide, South Australia on October 27, 1996.
Peter was in a relationship in Adelaide. He could have been under stress. He left with $50 in his pocket - just enough to buy him petrol for the start of his journey to Queensland.
His vehicle was located abandoned at Rollingstone, North Queensland on December 5, 1996. The car was sighted on two separate occasions by a group of electricity workers at a place called Mosquito Creek, which is just out of Rollingstone near Townsville. These witnesses saw someone sleeping in the car over a couple of days. When the police went to investigate, they found the car belonged to a missing person. It was Peter's, and he had been sleeping in it. His belongings were in the car, but there was no sign of him - and he hasn't been seen since.
